This year’s esteemed group of speakers will be: 

Daisy Nishigaya, a seasoned Deputy District Attorney who has been practicing in Santa Clara County for 21 years. Ms. Nishigaya will speak about substance abuse and provide highlights from Abraham Twerski’s book “Addictive Thinking Understanding Self-deception”, as well as offer tips about how to identify other’s behaviors, attitudes, and emotions as they journey through addiction. 

Katie Diemer has been practicing law for over 30 years, starting as a public defender in Missouri before moving to California and transitioning into civil practice. For the past 20 years, Ms. Diemer has focused her practice on bankruptcy and reorganization law, trying numerous cases in Federal, State and Bankruptcy courts. She will discuss the rules regarding competency and address the impacts of the issues raised by Ms. Nishigaya on fellow practitioners and clients. 

Judge LaDoris Cordell, the first African American woman to sit on the Superior Court in northern California, who, after 19 years on the bench, served as the Vice Provost & Special Counselor to the President for Campus Relations at Stanford University for 8 years, and then served as the Independent Police Auditor for the City of San Jose for 5 years will speak on the topic of  "Race, Gender, and the Bench: A Judge's Tale". 

Alison Buchanan, a shareholder with Hoge, Fenton, Jones & Appel and Certified Specialist in Legal Malpractice Law in San Jose, who practices in the areas of business litigation, professional liability/professional malpractice, and legal ethics will speak about attorney ethics.
