Career Advancement, Work-Life-Balance, and the Realities of Being a Woman Lawyer in the 21st Century

We are proud to present our Sixth Annual SCCBA Women’s Lawyer Program.

Plenary Session

This year we are excited to kick off the event with a panel discussion entitled "iSpeak: Using Your Voice for Career Advancement." With the emergence of the #MeToo movement, women have the stage in our culture today.  How can women use their voices to advance their own careers and those of other women?  How can women be allies for each other and address systemic discrimination and harassment without alienating those around us?  Our distinguished panel will try to answer these very essential questions.  Pat Gillette, our preeminent local legal powerhouse, Cindy Chavez, the only female member of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, and Mary Hansbury, Director of Employment Law at Twitter, will examine this important topic.

Round Table Discussions

As always, our program will also include a distinguished group of women lawyers leading small, round table discussion groups about issues facing female attorneys in the 21st Century: work-life integration, reinvention, personal branding, and sexual harassment.

Work Life Integation:   The Hon. Julia Alloggiamento will be returning this year to lead our ever popular work-life integration group with Sheeva Ghassemi-Vanni, a Fenwick partner just returning from maternity leave.

Reinvention:   Anne Martin, our resident lawyer-turned-reinvention strategist, along with Linda Netsch, Interim GM for FLEX by Fenwick, will discuss how to use our voices to discover and explore new career possibilities and a career transition with creativity, courage, and commitment.

Marketing-Personal Branding:   In the area of marketing, Sonya Sigler, aka "PractiGal," will be providing us invaluable tips on developing our personal brands.

Sexual Harassment:   And finally, our sexual harassment group will provide us with practical suggestions for responding to sexual harassment in the moment.  Our panelists for this important topic include experienced litigators Lori Costanzo, Andrea Justo and Elizabeth "Lisa" Peck, as well as clinical psychologist and consultant for Google, Jessica DiVento.

We will make every effort to match participants with discussion groups focused on issues relevant to them.  Space is limited, so register early!  When registering, please indicate if you are interested in:

  • Work Life Integration
  • Reinvention
  • Marketing--Personal Branding
  • Sexual Harassment
