Career Advancement, Work-Life-Balance, and the Realities of Being a Woman Lawyer in the 21st Century

We are proud to present our Seventh Annual SCCBA Women’s Lawyer Symposium: Raising the Bar.

Our event is being generously underwritten by Fenwick & West.

Plenary Session

This year we are excited to kick off the event with Honorable Lucy Koh, US District Judge for the Northern District of California. Judge Koh will speak personally about work-life integration, bias in negotiations, and answer some questions from our Symposium co-chair, Lori Costanzo.

Round Table Discussions

As always, our program will include a distinguished group of women lawyers leading small, round table discussion groups about current issues facing female attorneys: smart salary negotiations, make the most of your mediation, networking with a purpose, work/life integration.

Smart Salary Negotiations:  Lisa Stotlar, owner of Career Generations will facilitate this breakout session. Salary negotiating is both an art and a science. This will be a practical, experiential and fun workshop where you’ll learn where, when and why to negotiate your compensation.

Make the Most of Your Mediation:   Honorable Lynn Duryee, a neutral at JAMS will facilitate this session. Discussion topics will include how to prepare for mediation to give it the best chance of success, the role of the mediation brief, best strategies during the mediation itself, and how to avoid the most common errors in mediation.

Networking with a Purpose: We are extremely lucky to have two fabulous coaches leading this breakout: Sonya Sigler, aka "PractiGal," and Inna Buschell of Kivoon Coaching. In this breakout, participants will create their own networking plan that is above and beyond just run of the mill networking. It is networking with a clear-eyed purpose.

Work/Life Integration:  The work/life integration panel of three will provide us with advice and strategies as we transition into different phases of our lives, whether it be family and children, or creating a life that is enjoyable and meaningful outside the law. Our panelists for this topic include Evelynn Tran, General Counsel of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, Sheeva J. Ghassemi-Vanni from Fenwick & West, LLP, and Bonnie Ross of Messner Reeves LLP.

Space is limited, so register early! On the registration page, you will be able to breakout session you prefer:
