The SCCBA Women Lawyers' Section cordially Invites you to the Annual Reception Honoring Santa Clara County Women Judges. The section is proud to recognize Judge Risë Pichon as its 2014 special honoree at this year's reception.

Honorable Risë Jones Pichon
Assistant Presiding Judge,
Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara

Judge Risë Jones Pichon has been a Superior Court Judge of the County of Santa Clara since 1998. She previously served as a Judge of the Municipal Court from 1984 to 1998 and as a Court Commissioner from 1983 to 1984. From 1990 to 1991, Judge Pichon was Presiding Judge of the Municipal Court. She is currently the Assistant Presiding Judge of the Superior Court and has served as both the Supervising Judge and Assistant Supervising Judge of the Criminal Division, Supervising Judge of the Palo Alto Court Facility, and Supervising Judge of the Sunnyvale Court Facility. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Santa Clara University in mathematics. Following her graduation from Santa Clara University School of Law, she worked as an attorney for both the Office of the Public Defender and the Office of the County Counsel.


In 1999, Judge Pichon was appointed by the California Supreme Court to the California Commission on Judicial Performance and served on the Commission until 2007, including election as Chairperson from 2002 to 2004. She was appointed to the Judicial Council of California by California Supreme Court Chief Justice Malcolm Lucas and served from 1994 to 1997.

Judge Pichon is a member of the California Judges Association, the American Bar Association, the American Leadership Forum and the American Inns of Court, William A. Ingram Inn. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the St. Thomas More Society, having served as Chairperson from 2010 to 2012, the Santa Clara County Law Library Board of Trustees, and is a member of the advisory board for the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University. She has served on the Archbishop Mitty High School Board of Regents. Judge Pichon has taught at the California Judicial College, the National Judicial College, CJER, and has been a guest lecturer, speaker, and panelist at community colleges, universities and law schools in the area.  

Several awards Judge Pichon has been recognized with are the 2012 Silicon Valley Business Journal 100 Women of Influence Award, the 2011 Santa Clara County Bar Association Judge of the Year Award, and the 2011 Santa Clara Law School Social Justice and Human Rights Award.

Judge Pichon has been married to Ulysses Pichon for 40 years. They have one child, an adult daughter.
