Biographical Information
  Judge Carol Overton started her legal career at the Santa Clara County Public Defender's Office. Thereafter, she worked as a Deputy and Senior Deputy City Attorney for the San Jose City Attorney's Office for a period of nearly 18 years before her appointment to the bench. Judge Overton's civil litigation practice at the San Jose City Attorney's Office included tort defense, employment law, and regulatory enforcement. During the past several years of Judge Overton's career at the City Attorney's Office, she specialized in plaintiff's litigation, bringing a variety of unfair business practices and public nuisance lawsuits on the public's behalf—including numerous gang, drug and red light abatement actions, actions to enforce minimum housing standards at multiple, multi-unit residential rental properties, and actions to enforce commercial hazardous materials regulations. Judge Overton was appointed to the Santa Clara County Superior Court in 2005. Her judicial assignments to date include general crimes, drug court, domestic violence court—-where judge Overton also acted as Supervising Judge, and civil jury trials. Judge Overton has also handled probate matters on temporary assignment. Since January of 2013, she has been assigned as one of the civil case managers. Judge Overton has served on the Administration of the Court's Domestic Violence Practice and Procedure Task Force and is a member of the W.A. Ingram Inn of Court.
