We are fortunate in Santa Clara County to have an involved and responsive Judiciary.
The Santa Clara County Bar Association (“SCCBA”) has long enjoyed a close and productive relationship with our local state and federal judges. As part of this mutually beneficial relationship, the SCCBA believes that attorneys practicing in Santa Clara County should have a mechanism to provide feedback, constructive as well as concerns, about a particular court in general or about individual judicial officers. To facilitate this, the SCCBA Board of Trustees adopted in 2013 the Judicial Assessment Policy & Procedures.
PARTICIPATE
The Judicial Assessment Form ("Form") is the method by which attorneys practicing in Santa Clara County can confidentially provide specific concern/s related to a court or to an individual judge and/or to provide positive, constructive feedback regarding a court or an individual judge to the SCCBA Judicial Assessment Committee ("JAC"). The JAC is responsible for overseeing and responding to a Form pursuant to the procedures set out in the Judicial Assessment Policy & Procedures.
PRIOR SURVEYS
From 1989 to 2011, the SCCBA conducted a judicial survey asking attorneys to evaluate individual judges in different substantive categories. That survey was discontinued after 2011 and replaced with the Judicial Assessment process and procedure described above. For an explanation of the decision to discontinue the previous survey instrument, please see Steve B. Haley's article below.
